Liners

Narrow mouldings to fit inside a larger frame, liners add dimension and definition. Used with a mortise-and-tenon frame, they help draw the eye inward toward the artwork, and enhance perspective. Our gilt liners are 22 kt gold leaf laid directly on oak, revealing the distinctive coarse oak grain — a popular period technique. We show online our two most popular liner profiles.

closed-corner frames
While most frames today are joined from pre-finished molding, all Holton frames are closed-corner frames — they’re sanded and finished after joining. This makes for stronger, cleaner and more even corners. Learn more...
